Renier Kotze
Senior DevOps / Cloud Platform Engineer AWS · Amazon EKS · Terraform & Terragrunt
Twenty years in technology, six of them inside AWS. These days I build and run the platforms that regulated financial services systems sit on. If you want to talk about work, the fastest route is email — everything else is below.

A bit more
I started in infrastructure when it still arrived on a pallet, and I have spent the twenty years since following the same thread through virtualisation, cloud and now Kubernetes. Six of those years were inside Amazon Web Services — first as a second-line escalation engineer for enterprise customers, then as an operations manager running Premium Support teams. Being on the other side of the incident bridge teaches you things about platform design that no architecture diagram will.
Since 2022 I have consulted through CyberPro Consulting on two concurrent engagements. For the Shoprite Group's Money Market division I own the Terraform and Terragrunt estate spanning eight AWS accounts, along with the Amazon EKS platform running its production microservices. For Old Mutual's Will division I designed the DevOps environment and the CI/CD pipeline the product ships through.
What I enjoy is the unglamorous part: making the platform boring, so the people building on it can stop thinking about it. Clear boundaries, sane defaults, and infrastructure you can rebuild from a repository rather than from memory.
Outside work I am in Cape Town with the mountain on one side and the cold Atlantic on the other, which is a reasonable place to end up.
